Interface converters are designed to exchange data over Ethernet 10BASE-T and 100BASE-T network with equipment fitted with RS-485 interface and forming Modbus network.
Interface converter refers to a group of remote control devices. The device is an automatic microprocessor solving one of the most common problems in modern communications system, namely, incompatibility between different types of devices for data collection and transmission elimination.
In particular, remote control device, developed by Novatek-Electro and sold on retail and wholesale basis, allows exchanging data with equipment and devices that form Modbus network via Ethernet 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T network equipped with an RS-485 interface.
The interface converter operates on Modbus protocol, the most sought-after open communication protocol used in various industrial automated systems and applications. It supports various information exchange modes over the network. It has a wide bandwidth for data transfer and different settings modes.
Device Operating Principle
Equipment monitoring is an indispensable process with information and data transmission system single standard construction absence. In this case the control module is used to ensure that devices with different interfaces are compatible, or, if necessary, change data transmission physical method.
The instrument operates as Modbus Master or Modbus Slave via RS-485. In the first case, Modbus requests are redirected from the client on Ethernet network to the equipment connected to Modbus network and, in the same way, the responses are returned to the client. In Modbus Slave mode, the device can further accept requests from RS-485 client and redirect them to the specified Ethernet address.
Using the interface converter to control equipment operation provides the following options:
type of devices for which conversion is performed determination;
optimal data transmission speed setting;
valid distance between the system units where the data transmission will be performed without its integrity disrupting selection;
type of transmitted signal capable of performing data transfer in a given load selection;
network access protection and status monitoring;
request redirection setting.
High-speed device management is performed with 32-bit RISC-based processor with ARM architecture. The device is equipped with signal indicators designed to control network connection and data transmission.
The device operates in several modes:
HTTP protocol –the interface converter waits for Ethernet connection to port 80. In this case, the hardware connection is performed through a WEB browser to configure it;
TCP Modbus protocol – according to this protocol Ethernet connection waits for connection to port 502. Hardware connection can be performed using any software that implements TCP Modbus client;
in the active connection to the client mode the interface converter can independently set up active connection to the client with specified address parameters. This mode provides for the device to operate with several devices without having to assign a static address to them.
